The “immobile” ADHD that is easily overlooked by parents

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), known as ADHD in China, is a common type of psychological disorder in childhood. It is characterized by inattention and short attention span, hyperactivity and impulsivity that are not commensurate with age and developmental level, and is often accompanied by learning difficulties, behavioral disorders and maladaptation. Domestic and international surveys found that the prevalence rate of 3% ~ 7%, male to female ratio of 4 ~ 9: 1. Some of the affected children still have symptoms in adulthood, which obviously affects the patient’s schooling, physical and mental health, as well as the adult family life and social skills. Attention deficit is the core symptom of the disease, which is characterized by age-inappropriate difficulty in concentrating and short attention span. Patients often have difficulty sustaining attention during lectures, homework or other activities, and are easily distracted by external stimuli. Inability to pay attention to details in learning or activities, and errors often occur due to carelessness. Difficulty maintaining attention, often intentionally avoiding or being reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained concentration over a longer period of time, such as classroom or homework assignments. Procrastination and inability to complete homework or assigned tasks on time. The patient usually tends to lose things, often losing toys, learning aids, forgetting the arrangement of daily activities, and even forgetting the homework assigned by the teacher. 2. Excessive activity: The patient often seems to be restless, with a lot of small movements of the hands and feet, unable to sit quietly and twisting around in his seat. The patient leaves his seat without authorization in the classroom or on other occasions where quietness is required, and runs around or climbs. Difficulty in engaging in quiet activities or games, busy all day long. 3. Impulsive Behavior Responds quickly to behavior without sufficient information. Acts impulsively, without regard for consequences, and acts on impulse, often resulting in fights or disputes with peers, with negative consequences. Interrupts or interrupts when others are talking, rushes to answer a teacher’s question before it is finished, and cannot wait patiently in line. Attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior are the core symptoms of ADHD and have diagnostic value. Because attention deficit and hyperactivity affect the patient’s ability to listen to lectures in class, and the speed and quality of homework, the patient’s academic performance is poor, and often lower than what his/her intelligence should be. Abnormal development of the nervous system The patient’s fine motor, coordinated movement, spatial position sense and other development is poor. For example, the patient is unable to turn over his/her hands, move his/her fingers, tie his/her shoes and buckle his/her buttons, and has difficulty in distinguishing between left and right. A few patients are accompanied by delayed language development, poor language expression ability, low intelligence and other problems. 6.Conduct disorder The co-morbidity rate of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and conduct disorder is as high as 30%~58%. Behavioral disorders are manifested in aggressive behaviors, such as verbal abuse, injuring classmates, destroying objects, abusing others and animals, sexual assault, robbery, etc., or behaviors that are not in line with the moral norms and social norms, such as lying, truancy, running away from home, arson, stealing and so on. 7, adult ADHD for children ADHD regardless of treatment or not, 60% to 70% of them to adults still have symptoms, some of which can reach the diagnostic criteria of adult ADHD. The clinical manifestations of adult ADHD are different from those of childhood ADHD, with “attention deficit” as the main manifestation and “hyperactivity” reduced. Due to impulsiveness, the patient acts rashly, is prone to conflicts with coworkers, is prone to change jobs frequently due to impulsiveness, and is prone to driving impulsively, disobeying traffic rules, and causing traffic accidents. Symptom assessment for adults with ADHD generally requires the assistance of someone close to the patient, such as a spouse, parent, coworker, or supervisor.
