How to tell which side of the ear is affected by otolithiasis

The method of determining which side of the ear is affected by otolithiasis is mainly through the dislocation test, including: Dix-HaIIpike test, roll test. 1. Dix-HaIIpike test: the patient first sits on the examination bed, the head is turned 45° to the right, and then the patient lies down quickly, so that the patient’s head hangs under the bed at an angle of 20-30° to the bed, and continue to observe for 30 seconds or when the patient’s nystagmus stops, a similar performance will occur when the patient resumes the sitting position. Check the opposite side with the same maneuver. 2. Rolling test: first, let the patient lie flat, head elevated 30°, the examiner will hold the patient’s head and quickly turn the patient’s head to the left or right 45 °, and then observe for 1 minute or after the nystagmus stops to return to the normal angle. If nystagmus or discomfort occurs when the head is turned to the left, the affected ear is on the left side; on the contrary, it is on the right side. When otolithiasis is present, it is recommended to actively seek medical attention and systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis and condition.
