Liver abscess is categorized into bacterial and amoebic liver abscess. Bacterial liver abscess manifests as high fever, jaundice, pain and so on, while amoebic liver abscess manifests as fever, pain, liver size and so on. 1. Bacterial liver abscess: acute onset, chills, high fever, accompanied by sweating, jaundice and so on. Local manifestations are mainly persistent pain in the right upper or middle-upper abdomen, often radiating to the right shoulder. 2. Amebic liver abscess (1) Fever: Fever is common in the clinical manifestations of amebic liver abscess, which may be the first symptom, and the body temperature is mostly below 39℃. Fever with chills is often combined with bacterial infection. (2) Pain: pain in the liver area is one of the earlier symptoms of amebic liver abscess and has important diagnostic value. The nature of pain varies, manifesting as distension, dull pain, stabbing pain or hidden pain. The pain is often more pronounced when the abscess is close to the hepatic pericardium and can cause pain in the right shoulder when the diaphragm is irritated. If the abscess is located in the lower part of the liver, it may cause epigastric pain. (3) Liver enlargement: patients with amebic liver abscess often have different degrees of liver enlargement and pressure pain, usually 3-5cm below the right rib margin, and a few are more than 10cm. The surface of the enlarged liver is mostly soft and smooth, and a few of them may have hard texture and uneven surface. When the above symptoms occur, the patient should go to the hospital in time, and standardize the treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
