How long does it take for a bandage to become necrotic if it’s too tight?

If the limb below the proximal end of the wound is completely ischemic after bandaging, it will usually start to move towards tissue necrosis after 8-12 hours. The duration of necrosis varies from tissue to tissue; for example, the more fragile brain cells become necrotic and apoptotic after a few minutes of hypoxia and ischemia. Limb and muscle cells, on the other hand, take longer and are more resilient and do not develop necrosis at the wound site. Because the pressure of the bandage cannot reach a level of complete ischemia, it is common to use tourniquets or rubber bands to compress the extremities, and it is recommended that the bandage be released for a few minutes every hour so that the tissues do not become completely ischemic.
