What are the routine blood manifestations in patients with multiple myeloma?

Most patients with multiple myeloma will show low hemoglobin, or anemia, on their blood work. This type of anemia is moderate, with a hemoglobin value between 60-90 g/L on the routine blood count, and requires a blood transfusion if the anemia is severe. However, in the advanced stage of multiple myeloma, hemoglobin, white blood cells and platelets will be reduced, and the reduction will be particularly severe, so platelets, red blood cells and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor should be transfused to raise white blood cells, and bleeding and infection should be prevented.
