The patient’s nose is ventilated, but he cannot smell. It is better to go to the ENT department of the hospital for a detailed examination, which can be completed by nasal endoscopy or CT of the nose to confirm the diagnosis. In the first case, the mucous membrane in the olfactory area is simply edematous, so nasal sprays and hormones can be considered as anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling agents. Budesonide nasal spray or tretinoin nasal spray are commonly used in clinical practice, and methylprednisolone tablets are commonly used for hormonal treatment. The patient’s sense of smell will improve significantly after a week or so of medication until the mucosal edema in the olfactory area subsides. In the second case, the patient’s sense of smell will be improved after the polyps in the olfactory area are removed.
