Swelling of the lower eyelid and significant pain when blinking are considered inflammation of the lid gland, a purulent inflammation caused by bacterial infection of the lid gland, mostly due to Staphylococcus aureus, or other positive cocci. It is common for bacterial infections to occur as a result of decreased resistance, such as alcohol consumption, fatigue, late nights, or poor systemic problems. These cases are treated with antibacterial drugs for anti-inflammatory treatment, using levofloxacin drops or tobramycin eye ointment, and also oral antibiotics for combined anti-inflammatory treatment. Small wheals can subside in 2-3 weeks; if a relatively large abscess or pus forms, it may take 1-2 months to completely subside.
