How long it takes for ankle ligament injury to be able to take off the crutch is mainly determined by the degree of ligament injury, patients with minor strains can take off the crutch in 2~4 weeks, and most patients with ligament tears or ruptures need about 8~12 weeks for surgery.
1. Slight strain: If the type of ankle ligament injury is caused by slight strain, most of the patients will recover faster, generally after 2~4 weeks of immobilization of the affected limb, the strained ligament can be fully recovered, but due to the prolonged braking, after removing the exclusion of immobilizing devices, it needs about 1~2 weeks of rehabilitation training before it can be taken off the crutches and walk on the ground.
2. Ligament tear or rupture: If the type of ankle ligament injury is a ligament tear, which is usually more serious, some patients may also need ligament repair or reconstruction surgery.
Patients with torn ligaments usually need to be immobilized for about 6 weeks, and after 6 weeks, the external fixation device is removed to carry out rehabilitation training, and most of the patients may be able to achieve the state of full weight-bearing walking without abduction in 8~12 weeks.
Patients with ankle ligament injuries are advised to undergo systematic rehabilitation training under the guidance of a professional rehabilitation doctor to minimize the adverse effects of the disease.
