Does chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer work?

Chemotherapy is effective for some patients with pancreatic cancer, but chemotherapy cannot completely cure pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer belongs to the more common malignant tumors in clinic, for patients who cannot undergo surgical resection, chemotherapy can be considered. Chemotherapy is one of the important means of treating pancreatic cancer, which can control the progress of the disease and prolong the survival of patients, but chemotherapy can not kill all the malignant cells, so it can not achieve the radical cure. In addition, surgery combined with chemotherapy may further reduce the probability of recurrence and metastasis. Domestic guidelines state: 1. neoadjuvant therapy can help improve the R0 resection rate of patients with junction resectable pancreatic cancer and improve the prognosis of patients, and it is recommended that neoadjuvant therapy be performed on all patients with junction resectable pancreatic cancer who have a good physical status; 2. Some patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer can obtain surgery through conversion therapy to improve their prognosis. Patients with good physical status are recommended to use combination therapy, while those with poor physical status are recommended to use radiotherapy based on gemcitabine or fluorouracil as single agent; 3. systemic systemic therapy is preferred for patients with pancreatic cancer combined with single organ such as liver and lung oligometastases; 4. Adjuvant chemotherapy should be performed for all postoperative pancreatic cancer, and it should be started within 8 weeks after operation as far as possible, and combination chemotherapy regimen is preferred according to the physical status of patients; 5. Patients with unresectable advanced pancreatic cancer should be actively treated with systemic therapy according to their physical status, and preferred combination therapy program. If pancreatic cancer is suspected or diagnosed, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals for comprehensive assessment of the condition and follow the doctor’s instructions to cooperate with the treatment, so as not to delay the condition.
