History of Spinal Surgery

In recent years, the Department of Spine Surgery has been developing under the leadership of Director Huang Xiangwang. There are 46 beds, 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, 2 doctors and 3 masters. Dr. Xiao Sheng has studied in Germany, and Dr. Huang Xiangwang has visited Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea for many times for study and academic exchanges. In 2007, we held the first cervical spine anatomy and related clinical seminar in the province. He was awarded a patent for 3D fixation of the spine with extracorporeal bracing and repositioning, two second prizes of the Science and Technology Achievement Award, two prizes of the Provincial Natural Science and Technology Fund, one prize of the Science and Technology Department, and one prize of the Science and Technology Fund of the Health Department. Clinical, scientific research and teaching are developing simultaneously. Served as a clinical teaching in the School of Medicine of Shih Tzu University and the training of master students in South China University for four sessions. Completed three national clinical pharmacy trial projects. Since 2000, we have set up orthopedic websites and have effectively conducted teleconsultations through the Internet, providing an optional green channel for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases for the majority of injured and sick patients. Since its establishment in 2007, the annual spine surgery volume has reached more than 800 units. Clinical research and surgical treatment of spinal cord diseases, trauma, tumors, tuberculosis, and congenital malformations have been carried out. stage I combined anterior and posterior decompression and internal fixation for severe spinal cord cervical spondylosis. The posterior cervical transdural approach for cervical disc herniation and severe cervical spinal stenosis was the first of its kind in China, and the literature review was well received by our peers. The transoral pharyngeal approach was carried out to loosen or remove the dentate tuberosity and remove the lesion + posterior fusion. The internal fixation of C1 and 2 arch root nails was adopted for cricoaxial instability, which reached the advanced level in China. Expanded decompression occipital-cervical fusion of the foramen magnum for congenital cranial sunkenness with high cervical myelopathy. We have completed more than 80 such surgeries with high difficulty and high risk. We have performed more than 40 orthopedic operations for congenital spinal deformity, severe adolescent scoliosis, degenerative scoliosis, tuberculosis, trauma, ankylosing spondylitis, and hunchback deformity. He has completed three stage I operations for cervical and cervicothoracic lumbar tuberculosis with remarkable results. The treatment of severe thoracolumbar fracture and complete dislocation by trans-injury spine nailing has become the highlight of the department. Carried out the cervical and thoracic lumbosacral segment tumor removal such as the upper thoracic spine giant nerve sheath tumor, dumbbell-shaped, growing in the spinal canal and thoracic cavity, the patient is 74 years old, Henan, high risk and high difficulty for the elderly patients, tossed around a number of large hospitals, and finally chose our hospital surgery, and successfully removed the tumor. Eight cases of sacral chordoma were removed, and internal fixation of lumbar, sacral and iliac nails were used as appropriate to reconstruct spinal stability. Individualized chemotherapy, surgery and interventional treatment were performed for multiple myeloma and metastatic carcinoma of the spine with remarkable efficacy. Minimally invasive clinical applications in the spine, the early 1990s in our province earlier carried out MED (lumbar disc removal via the posterior approach) spinal interventional techniques: tumors of the spine, vertebral hemangioma, lumbar compression fractures caused by osteoporosis carried out a large number of PVP, PKP technology to reduce pain, enhance the strength and restore the height of the vertebral body, and stabilize the spine has played a satisfactory effect. When asked where to go for spinal disease, people point to the provincial human medicine. With the joint efforts of the entire medical staff, the number of outpatient, inpatient and surgical procedures has increased year by year. In the province has produced a greater impact.
