Major functional impairment after amputation

After amputation, the main anatomical structure of the limb is partially absent, and the more the absence, the more the physiological function is lost and the more serious the functional impairment. The dysfunction of the upper limb after amputation is mainly the loss of hand function and the inability to grip and pinch. The dysfunction of the lower limb after amputation will affect walking, standing and jumping. In the case of thigh amputation, it will be more difficult to wear a prosthesis for rehabilitation training because of the loss of the knee joint. With a broken hip amputation and loss of all lower limb function, such a patient is limited to indoor and outdoor activities for short distances and requires crutches or a wheelchair.
