What are the advantages of having a child with ADHD?

The prevalence of ADHD is increasing as people become more aware and the social environment changes. The prevalence of ADHD among school-age children in China is about 3% to 10%. It’s almost June, and it’s time for another semester of intense revision and exams. For parents of children with ADHD, the most important thing to do at this time is to help your child study effectively for the exam. Does your child’s medication need to be adjusted at this stage? How do I cope with the stress of studying? One of the main problems that hyperactive children have when studying is the difficulty in maintaining attention. They are not able to pay attention to lectures and homework and are easily influenced by the environment; they are particularly careless and often lose things; they do not perform well on homework and in class; and their inability to complete homework also leads to a lack of timely and effective consolidation of classroom knowledge, which, together with some learning deficits, often affects their academic performance. Severe cases can also lead to learning difficulties and aversion to learning. Reviewing for exams often brings tension and anxiety to children, which can aggravate their inattention; in addition, the amount of school work is greater during the review and examination period, and children are more fatigued, so their inattention will be aggravated. Understanding these two factors, parents should help their children to adjust their emotions and reduce stress. Pay attention to the child’s emotional state, if the child repeatedly expressed concern about test results, nervousness, discomfort, affecting sleep and diet, to comfort, encourage and help them in a timely manner. If the child is significantly anxious, he or she can go to a specialist clinic to receive psychological counseling. In addition, attention should be paid to the reasonable arrangement of work and rest time to avoid excessive fatigue. For children with ADHD, it is common for symptoms to worsen during the review and examination period. It is usually not recommended to adjust the dosage of medication because, as analyzed above, it is not the child’s disease that has worsened, and the symptoms can be completely reduced through the above psychological adjustment; inappropriate dosage adjustment may instead bring about fluctuations in the disease or increase in side effects, which may affect the child’s learning results.
