Can acute epiglottitis recur?

Acute epiglottitis has some chance of recurrence. It can be easily recurred due to infection, allergic substance stimulation, physical injury and other etiological factors. Patients should go to the ENT department of the hospital in time to avoid adverse consequences. 1. Infection: Bacterial or viral infection is a common cause of recurrence of acute epiglottitis. When pathogenic bacteria infect the tonsils or the mucous membrane of the pharyngeal cavity, the stimulation of inflammation may spread to the epiglottis mucous membrane, which will lead to the recurrence of the disease. 2. Allergic substance stimulation: when some allergic substances contact the patient’s throat and stimulate the mucosa of the pharyngeal cavity, such as animal dander, pollen, dust, etc., all of which may lead to the recurrence of acute epiglottitis. 3. Physical injury: If the patient suffers from violent blows to the throat, repeated intubation or endoscopy within a short period of time, improper operation may damage the mucosa of the pharyngeal cavity and trigger the recurrence of the disease.
