How many years do you usually live with a kidney cyst?

There is no specific value for how many years a patient with renal cysts can survive. Whether renal cysts will affect a patient’s life expectancy is mainly determined by the patient’s specific condition. Simple renal cysts generally do not affect a patient’s life expectancy, while adult-type renal cysts and acquired renal cysts may affect the life expectancy of the patient.
1. Simple renal cysts: generally do not affect life expectancy, simple renal cysts are asymptomatic and have little effect on the surrounding tissues and renal function, so they can be left untreated and only need to be followed up every 6 months to 1 year; if the diameter of the cysts is more than 5cm or if they cause compression symptoms to the surrounding tissues, then they may need to be treated with surgery.
2. Adult-type renal cysts: it is a congenital hereditary disease, in which the kidney parenchyma is filled with countless round cysts that do not communicate with the outside world, also known as polycystic kidneys, and often develops slowly into chronic renal failure, which may affect the patient’s life span.
3. Acquired renal cysts: mainly caused by uremia or after dialysis treatment, the prognosis of patients may be poor because their condition is usually more serious.
Patients with renal cysts should go to regular hospitals in time, clarify the specific condition under the guidance of the doctor, and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment, in order to strive for early recovery.
