Long-term application of betalactam may indeed produce certain side effects. If the side effects are too great, the dose needs to be reduced or even replaced by other drugs in a timely manner. A few patients with long-term application have symptoms such as upper abdominal discomfort, nausea, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, etc. Some may also experience symptoms such as lethargy and insomnia, which generally do not require discontinuation of the drug. Rarer long-term applications have non-specific skin reactions, and serious ones require discontinuation. Long-term use of betalactam can sometimes produce side effects such as slowed heart rate, conduction block, lowered blood pressure, and increased heart failure. Rare side effects include cold extremities and weakened pulse due to peripheral vasospasm. In some cases, sexual function may be affected, resulting in decreased sexual function. In some cases, cardioplegia or heart stabilizing granules can be used instead of betalactam.
