Lithospermum is also known as dragon claw flower and cockroach flower. Lithospermum has great medicinal value. Lithospermum is warm, pungent, bitter and poisonous. It has the efficacy of killing insects, expectorant and inducing vomiting, diaphoretic and decongesting, dispersing and detoxifying. It can treat wind and phlegm congestion in the throat, sore throat and breast moth, food poisoning, water retention in the chest and abdomen, rheumatic paralysis, scrofula and phlegm nucleus, malignant sores and swelling, hemorrhoids, dermatitis, ringworm, bruises, burns and fire injuries, edema, phlegm and saliva congestion, jaundice. Externally, it can be used to treat lymph node tuberculosis, boils and sores, rheumatic joint pains, poisonous snake bites, as well as to exterminate maggots and rats.
