Tic-tacitus syndrome is a clinical abnormality caused by the alteration of various neurotransmitter levels in the central nervous system due to extrapyramidal lesions in the brain. Chai Xubin, Department of Neurosurgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital
The age of onset of patients varies from 6 or 7 years old to 50 years old. Such as increased muscle tone in the head and neck, which causes head tilting to one side, limited normal head movement, sluggish expression and drowsiness all day. Increased muscle tone in the larynx can cause slow pronunciation, slurred speech, and other abnormalities. Increased muscle tone in the limbs can lead to limited movement and reduced fine activities, which can seriously affect normal life and bring serious impact to the whole family.
The clinical contact with patients with tics and obscurations has made me deeply appreciate the pain of patients and the serious harm caused by it: this patient bit off his finger due to severe tics (see Figure 1), and now our department, under the leadership of our medical director Li Anmin, has successfully cured thousands of such patients with good results. It not only clinically relieves the patient’s abnormal twitching and other symptoms, but also saves the whole family, completely releasing not only the patient’s own mental shackles, but also healing the trauma of the patient’s family to a great extent.
Our department adopts LEKSELL stereotactic instrument, which can precisely locate to the deep brain target, and the positioning accuracy rate reaches 100%, overturning the concept of damaging the surrounding tissues when performing brain surgery in the traditional sense. It avoids the serious complications arising from previous surgeries.
