Cough variant asthma is asthma with cough as the main or only symptom. Cough variant asthma is essentially asthma, a specific type of asthma with persistent, persistent and unrelenting cough symptoms, characterized by an irritating cough and a nocturnal cough, which can occur when exposed to allergens, cold air, or emotional stress. Cough variant asthma is a chronic cough, that is, a cough with a duration of more than 8 weeks. If the chest radiograph is normal and the duration of the cough is greater than 8 weeks, then the most common cause of the cough is cough variant asthma. The main manifestation is a recurrent, paroxysmal cough, characterized by a dry cough, mainly at night, or, if there is sputum, it is relatively small, sticky and not easy to cough up. If the cough is recurrent and prolonged, a pulmonary function test is required. Most patients have prolonged disease for a period of time before the typical asthma is manifested, and the croup gradually appears in the lungs. After the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment with bronchodilators combined with inhaled glucocorticoids or oral leukotriene antagonists is required. The etiology of cough variant asthma is not significantly different from that of typical asthma, and the symptoms may be relieved with the application of anti-asthmatic drugs. Symptom relief with the application of anti-asthmatic drugs is also used as an essential condition for the diagnosis of cough variant asthma.
