Itchy throat and dry cough, what is it?

Itchy throat and dry cough may be caused by physiological reasons, such as drinking less water; it may also be caused by pathological reasons, such as chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis, reflux pharyngitis and other diseases. 1. Physiological reasons: If you drink less water, it may lead to dryness of the mucous membrane of the throat, which in turn causes symptoms of itchy throat and dry cough. 2. Pathologic causes: (1) chronic pharyngitis: chronic pharyngitis refers to the diffuse chronic inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, submucosa and lymphoid tissue, and the clinical symptoms are dominated by foreign body sensation in the pharynx and itchy throat. It can be caused by repeated episodes of acute pharyngitis, diseases of the nasopharynx, bad habits, occupational factors and so on. (2) Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is a non-specific inflammation of the palatine tonsils, with clinical symptoms such as sore throat, itchy throat, dry cough, fever, and foreign body sensation in the throat. Etiology includes pathogenic microbial infection, decreased immunity, acute inflammation of neighboring organs, or certain progressive infectious diseases. (3) Reflux pharyngitis: Reflux pharyngitis is the discomfort caused by abnormal reflux of stomach contents into the throat. Clinically manifested as a burning sensation in the throat, foreign body sensation, often accompanied by throat itching, dry cough and other symptoms.
