Does it help to drink water when you have a fishbone stuck in your throat?

There is no real point in drinking water if you accidentally get a fish splinter stuck while eating. Patients are advised to try coughing gently for a few moments, which may clear out the fishbone. However, if the fish splinter is stuck deep or solidly lodged, it is best to go to the hospital and let the doctor deal with it. The patient can register with the ENT department, and the doctor will carefully look for the exact location of the fish splinter. If the fishbone is shallow, such as on the tonsils or on the root of the tongue, the doctor will use gunshot forceps and indirect laryngoscope to remove the fishbone directly. However, if it is located deep in the base of the tongue or in the epiglottis, a fiberoptic laryngoscope is often needed to remove the fishbone. Avoid talking during meals, and always chew and swallow slowly so that the fishbone does not get stuck in the throat.
