How do people with psoriasis live?

Many psoriasis patients know little about psoriasis, and there are several gaps or misunderstandings, coupled with certain prejudices against psoriasis in society and misinformation from certain media, which makes many psoriasis patients carry a heavy psychological burden and mental pressure, making it more difficult for drug treatment to be effective and directly affecting the relief of the disease. Some surveys at home and abroad have shown that psoriasis affects almost all aspects of patients’ lives and seriously affects their quality of life. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the life care of psoriasis patients with the same status as treatment. However, it is not enough to rely on the work of dermatologists alone to take care of patients with psoriasis, but also to mobilize the participation of patients’ families and the whole community in order to receive substantial results. 1. Life and behavior guidance: When analyzing together with the patient the onset triggers, aggravating factors and discussing measures to avoid recurrence, tell the patient in detail some things to pay attention to in daily life and behavior. The following knowledge is for the reference of psoriasis patients: (1) Quit drinking: to confirm that alcohol consumption and the severity of psoriasis are positively correlated. (2) Quit smoking: there is a significant relationship between psoriasis and smoking habit, and it is significantly correlated with the amount of smoking. (3) Food: pay attention to scientific taboos, do not eat beef and mutton because of their high content of arachidonic acid; eating fish is beneficial and harmless because fish oil contains a kind of unsaturated fatty acid, and appropriate supplementation of fish oil is helpful to the treatment of psoriasis; eating chili peppers in moderation is beneficial because capsaicin in chili peppers is a substance P antagonist (the content of substance P in skin lesions is increased during the active period of psoriasis). (4) Avoid the application of drugs that can induce or aggravate psoriasis, such as: corticosteroids, iodine, lithium chloride, progesterone, human proteins, insulin, chloroquine, ampicillin, anti-inflammatory pain, pau taisong, acetylsalicylic acid, digoxin, interferon, etc. (5) Avoid or reduce upper respiratory tract infections (epiglottitis, tonsillitis, etc. can induce or aggravate psoriasis. (6) Avoid trauma, including scratching the lesions, which can also aggravate psoriasis. (7) Avoid the external use of irritating drugs, which may induce heavy psoriasis. Special emphasis should also be placed on avoiding the blind pursuit of “root cure” and “throwing the disease at random” without distinguishing the true from the false, resulting in unimaginable medically-derived injuries and unbearable economic burden. 2, psychological guidance: the doctor’s words and attitude to the patient will have a very strong infectious effect. When doctors receive patients, they should spend some time to strengthen direct communication with patients by talking with them, targeting psychological guidance for patients with different psychological conditions, relieving patients of various psychological burdens or concerns, and enhancing patients’ confidence in healing. 3, health guidance for families: a harmonious family atmosphere and the understanding, sympathy and care of family members for psoriasis patients have obvious positive effects on the remission of patients’ conditions and the prevention of relapse. 4.Social health propaganda: the psychological burden and mental pressure of many psoriasis patients originate from the prejudice of some people in society towards psoriasis and/or the misinformation of certain media. Certain media even claim in their advertisements that psoriasis is an “immortal cancer”, which is absurd and harmful to people. We call on the government, health administrative departments, industry and commerce, and media units to join hands to strictly control the quality of advertisements, curb those “panacea”, “ancestral secret recipes”, “the nemesis of psoriasis ” and other false advertisements are introduced to save psoriasis patients who are easily deceived. At the same time, we should systematically and frequently organize dermatology experts to positively publicize the knowledge of psoriasis prevention and treatment through TV, radio, newspapers and popular science books; or use community health service outlets to organize psoriasis patients, educate them on health, treat the disease correctly and let them liberate themselves. We should give full play to the active role of the forces of all walks of life to build a relaxed social environment for psoriasis patients, so as to promote their early recovery.
