How long can the wheals heal on its own depends mainly on the patient’s resistance and the strength of bacterial virulence. If the patient’s resistance is strong and the bacterial virulence is weak, the inflammation will basically subside after the pus is absorbed or discharged, usually forming yellow pus spots after 2-3 days, and the inflammation will decrease significantly after the pus spots break down and gradually subside in 1-2 days, mostly healing on its own within 1 week. Macroglossia is an acute inflammatory condition caused by the invasion of purulent bacteria into the eyelid glands, mostly caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection of the eyelid glands. Most patients with mydriasis still require treatment, especially children, older adults, or patients with diabetes and other chronic diseases, because they are weaker and less resistant, and when the mydriatic bacteria are more virulent, they may spread in the subcutaneous tissues of the eyelids and develop into eyelid cellulitis, which can cause life-threatening sepsis if left untreated. Local heat should be applied to the eyelid for 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a day to promote blood circulation to the eyelid and help the inflammation subside. Also use antibiotic eye ointment and eye drops as prescribed by your doctor to control infection. For recurrent episodes and those with systemic reactions, take oral antibiotic medications as prescribed by the doctor in order to control the infection. When treatment is ineffective and an abscess is formed, surgical incision to drain the pus and clean up the necrotic granulation tissue is required, and placement of drainage strips may be considered depending on the situation.
