The effect of high natural killer cells on pregnancy may be to cause increased chances of infertility, spontaneous abortion, and embryonic arrest.
Natural killer cells are immune cells. Elevated natural killer cells are an abnormality of the immune system and may cause an immune response in the mother. The embryo is a foreign body to the mother, and the immune barrier function of the placenta may not be able to prevent the natural killer cells from affecting the embryo, so a high level of natural killer cells may affect the embryo’s implantation and subsequent development.
Women with infertility or a history of poor pregnancy and childbirth should generally be checked for immune problems, and high natural killer cells generally need to be treated before preparing for pregnancy.
