Parents often ask whether it is possible to perform the syndactyly without skin grafting. Before we designed the skinless syndactyly, parents often heard the answer that we try not to graft, and if we need to graft, we still need to take skin and graft, but after we designed the skinless syndactyly, parents usually heard this sentence: now all of our syndactyly don’t need to be grafted. Compared to skin grafts, the four main advantages of the implantless syndactyly are: firstly, it significantly shortens the duration of the syndactyly operation; secondly, it significantly reduces the amount of time that the child has to be under anesthesia; thirdly, the scars are invisible, and there are no scars on any other part of the baby’s body; and fourthly, it is functionally and cosmetically pleasing. It is important to note that with implant-free syndactyly, it takes one and a half or even two months for the baby to recover, and the recovery period is a little longer than with implants, so during the recovery period, parents must pay very close attention to their baby’s every move to avoid problems such as infection. In general, as long as the doctor, parents and baby work well together, the appearance and function of the baby’s affected finger can be greatly improved. The picture below shows a baby with syndactyly before and after the surgery. This baby has been in surgery for just over a month and is recovering very well.
