Bai Hu Tang is composed of four drugs, namely, gypsum, Zhi Mu, round-grained rice and roasted licorice. The formula makes extensive use of gypsum, together with Zhi Mu, which clears heat and fire. At the same time, the combination of licorice and japonica rice can benefit the stomach and harmonize the middle, and can prevent gypsum and Zhi Mu from injuring the stomach with cold. The four drugs used together have the effect of clearing heat and generating fluid, which can achieve the purpose of clearing heat and preserving fluid at the same time, so that clearing heat without injuring the stomach and dipping fire can generate fluid.
