Infection is possible when food debris is dropped into the cavity after an extraction. Food debris builds up over time and breaks down and ferments, producing bacteria that can cause infection.
After a tooth is extracted, granulation tissue grows in the extraction wound, followed by connective tissue, and finally mature bone tissue, completing the healing process of the extraction wound. The entire process needs to be done in sterile conditions. If food debris creates bacteria in the wound, it may cause infection and affect the healing of the extraction wound.
If you feel discomfort, edema or pus in the wound, it suggests that a chronic infection may have occurred. If the symptoms of infection are serious or other symptoms appear, you should go to the hospital in time for early and regular treatment.
