Standardized treatment of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor (GIST)

Mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract are mesenchymal-derived tumors originating from the gastrointestinal tract. The histological pattern has spindle cell epithelioid or pleomorphic cells. Immunohistochemistry is positive for expression of KIT protein (CD117).
Frequent c-kit gene mutations are genetically present. Treatment of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors is more specific than that of common tumors, being insensitive to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and more complex situations may be encountered in treatment. Surgery for primary gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor: Surgery is the first choice for the treatment of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor, and the principle of surgery must be complete excision without residue, otherwise the risk of recurrence after surgery is greatly increased. The treatment of recurrent mesenchymal tumor is divided into surgery and targeted therapy (taking Gleevec or Sotan treatment), and the selection of treatment indications requires the guidance of a specialist. Because of the high cost of targeted therapy, the China Charity Federation and the China Cancer Foundation have carried out assistance activities with experts from major hospitals nationwide, i.e., a portion of the drug is given away after buying some drugs.
