Why Stage 2 Colon Cancer Doesn’t Need Chemotherapy

Stage II colon cancer generally does not need chemotherapy if the patient has no risk factors for recurrence and metastasis, but if there are some high-risk factors, such as nerve invasion, vascular tumor embolism, poor differentiation and so on, then chemotherapy is still needed as well. In stage II colon cancer, most patients’ tumor cells have not metastasized, so the tumor can be eliminated by surgical resection to improve the condition. Generally speaking, as long as the treatment is timely, most stage II patients do not experience recurrence or metastasis after surgery. However, this is not absolute. If the treatment is not timely or the postoperative care is not proper, which leads to the cancer cells spreading again and there are some high-risk factors, such as nerve invasion, vascular tumor embolism, poor differentiation, etc., then chemotherapy has to be continued to control the progression of the disease after surgery. Therefore, patients should have a timely review after surgery, follow the doctor’s advice whether to carry out chemotherapy or not, meanwhile, strengthen the daily care, and take a light and easy-to-digest diet with more vegetables and fruits, so as to avoid the deterioration of the condition.
