Dust mites are ubiquitous microorganisms that are found throughout the human living environment. But because of their small size, they are invisible without the use of a microscope. Yet it is these small things that can cause many allergic reactions in humans, such as allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and hives. With the modernization of people’s living and office environments, the incidence of allergic diseases related to dust mites is rapidly increasing. Dust mite parasites are mainly found in: floors, carpets, bedding, home decorations and filters of air conditioners. Dust mite prevention and control methods are as follows: Reduce the relative humidity in the room: control the relative humidity to less than 50%. Using high performance dehumidifiers and air conditioning units to reduce relative humidity is both practical and effective. Using special mite resistant materials to pack mattresses and pillows, such as mite proof covers, is an effective way to reduce exposure to dust mites and their allergens. Washing bedding in hot water: Washing bed sheets and pillowcases with hot water above 55°C every week can kill mites and remove most mite allergens. Washing hair daily is also a good way to control dust mite allergens. Replace soft décor: Carpets, curtains and home décor fabrics, especially plush toys, accumulate crumbly debris and provide an ideal habitat for mite reproduction, so consider replacing them. Freeze soft toys and small items: Freeze soft toys and small items (pillows and clothing) for at least 24 hours at -17°C to -20°C. Washing these items will remove dead mites and allergens. In colder zones, leaving mattresses and pillows outside for 24 hours is also a good method.
