A lumbar disc herniation is a condition in which the degenerated nucleus pulposus of a lumbar disc protrudes posteriorly from the ruptured annulus fibrosus and compresses the spinal cord and nerve roots, resulting in lumbar pain, limited mobility, and numbness and weakness in both lower extremities. Lumbar disc herniation should be treated according to its symptoms and medical history. Usually, we usually take sequential treatment or step therapy. In the first stage, which is the early stage of lumbar disc herniation, we usually adopt conservative treatment, which is the first step of sequential treatment. This treatment usually includes rest, medication, physical therapy and so on. In the second stage, some minimally invasive interventions are needed. These minimally invasive interventions include laser, ozone, and radiofrequency ablation. In the third stage, minimally invasive surgical treatments such as triple scopes are considered. The triple lens treatment includes intervertebral foraminoscopy, discoscopy, and microscopic treatment. In special cases, such as lumbar disc herniation combined with slipped disc, or lumbar spinal stenosis, etc., bone graft fusion and internal fixation surgery may be needed, which is also the last stage of treatment.
