Carotid artery stenosis is an extremely dangerous cerebrovascular disease, because once the carotid artery is narrowed, it will directly affect the blood supply to the brain. Long-term lack of blood supply to the brain can lead to various problems such as cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage and brain death, which is quite frightening. In order to reduce the damage of carotid artery stenosis, active and effective treatment is inevitable. The treatment of carotid artery stenosis is graded. Some patients with small stenosis need only anticoagulant drugs to control the treatment. However, some patients with severe stenosis have developed into moderate to severe carotid stenosis, which may require surgical intervention. Surgical treatment includes carotid artery stenting and carotid endarterectomy, which are currently used in many hospitals in China. So, is carotid stenting dangerous? There are some risks in any surgery, but you must choose a regular hospital and a professional physician to complete the operation. Regarding carotid stenting surgery, there are still some disadvantages, such as dislodging of emboli and thrombosis in the stent, and more seriously, restenosis, which is more detrimental to the later treatment. Therefore, a more scientific and effective treatment for carotid stenosis is now carotid endarterectomy, which has remarkable results. This technique has been developed over decades and has become very mature. As a reminder, if the patient is physically able to tolerate the stripping procedure, it is still recommended that this technique be preferred.
