Neuron-specific enolase is a tumor marker and belongs to the enzyme tumor marker class. The cost of neuron-specific enolase test is about$100. Neuron-specific enolase is mainly used for the detection of two diseases: i. neuroblastoma. Second, small cell lung cancer. For neuroblastoma the sensitivity can reach more than 90%. For small cell lung cancer the level is 5-10 times higher than other types of lung cancer, the sensitivity can reach 80% and the specificity can reach 80%-90%. In only 10-20% of patients with other tissue types of lung cancer, neuron-specific enolase is elevated. Because small cell lung cancer is a relatively common malignancy in clinical practice, neuron-specific enolase is used in a wide range of applications.
