How long does it take to operate on bile duct stones

It is difficult to determine the duration of surgery for bile duct stones. Simple bile duct stones may take less than an hour to treat, while complex bile duct stones may take 5-6 hours to treat, and sometimes multiple surgeries may be required to treat the stones if they are not completely cured in a single surgery. Compared with intrahepatic bile duct stones, extrahepatic bile duct stones are simpler to treat, and can be treated by choledochotomy, choledochoscopy or endoscopic ERCP, which generally takes less time. Intrahepatic bile duct stones are more complicated, not only the presence of stones, but also cause the lesion of bile duct narrowing, and may even cause liver atrophy and cancer. In this case, the surgical method is not simply to remove the stones, but also to pay attention to the removal of stenosis, smooth drainage, and if necessary, also need to remove part of the liver to achieve the therapeutic purpose, which will result in a significantly longer operating time. For patients with extensive intrahepatic stones, sometimes even need to perform the surgery in stages, otherwise it is difficult for patients to tolerate.
