Leading causes of death in type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, requires lifelong insulin for blood glucose control, and the main fatal complication is diabetic nephropathy. It is mainly seen in patients with a history of more than 10 years and will eventually lead to chronic renal insufficiency and uremia, leading to the death of the patient, which is the one that occupies the majority. There is a part of patients with recurrent ketoacidosis due to poor glycemic control, which is also a cause of death. There is also a part of patients, because of the combination of acute serious infections, resulting in infectious shock, which will also lead to the death of the patient in the end. Therefore, the main causes of death in patients with type 1 glucose disease are diabetic nephropathy, renal insufficiency, uremia, ketoacidosis, and infectious shock.
