What are the causes of cauliflower ear deformity?

After closed trauma such as compression or twisting contusion of the auricle, it can often lead to hematoma formed by subchondral blood leakage, causing ischemic necrosis of the auricular cartilage. As the hematoma becomes connective tissue, the fibrous connective tissue proliferates and contracts, and the cartilage necroses, the auricle gradually thickens and wrinkles, showing many irregular-shaped protrusions on the surface, with creases of varying depths between the protrusions, similar to cauliflower, hence the name cauliflower ear deformity. Infection of the ear cartilage from various causes can also lead to cauliflower ear deformity. Cauliflower ear is a type of ear deformity that is more difficult to treat and does not easily achieve better results.
