What are the effects of high citrulline

High levels of citrulline can cause infants and children to exhibit digestive and neurological disorders. Citrulline is an amino acid in the a~amino acid group, and is a by-product of carbon monoxide synthase, which catalyzes the production of arginine. High levels of citrulline are due to disorders of amino acid metabolism. Infants and children with citrulline may suffer from depression, weight loss, sleep disorders, abdominal pain and diarrhea, urinary and fecal incontinence, as well as seizures and convulsions. Children with mildly elevated citrulline values can be followed for observation and regular follow-up to check for recovery, but patients with still elevated citrulline values need to be seen for treatment. The child should have a standardized routine, regular review, and if there is an exacerbation of the symptoms, it is recommended that the symptoms be treated promptly.
