The extracorporeal lithotripters are only available in large hospitals, and small hospitals may not be able to afford the money and do not have extracorporeal lithotripters. If a patient has urinary tract stones, such as ureteral stones or kidney stones, and the stones are less than two centimeters, it is recommended to try lithotripsy with an extracorporeal lithotripter. Each extracorporeal lithotripsy can cost anywhere from five hundred to one thousand dollars, depending mainly on the level of the hospital and the machine equipment.
