When nodules or masses with sand-like calcification are found in thyroid ultrasonography, malignant tumors such as papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma of thyroid are usually considered. Its ultrasound examination is characterized by unclear margins, irregular shape, uneven internal echogenicity, sand-like calcification, rich blood flow in and around the tumor, and often accompanied by enlarged lymph nodes around the thyroid gland. It is recommended that biopsy should be taken as early as possible for pathological diagnosis, because some benign thyroid tumors also have sandy calcification, which need to be clearly diagnosed by pathology in order to be treated symptomatically.
