A high red blood cell width CV value suggests that the red blood cells are not uniform in size.
Erythrocyte width CV, or RDW-CV, refers to the coefficient of variation of the distribution width of erythrocyte volume, with a reference value of 11.5% to 14.5%. This value is mainly used to reflect whether the volume of erythrocytes is distributed more uniformly, and an elevated value is more likely to indicate that the erythrocytes are not uniform in size.
Uneven red blood cell volume is most commonly caused by abnormal hematopoiesis, common red blood cell non-uniform anemia such as iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anemia and so on.
Therefore, when the CV value of red blood cell width is found to be high, it is recommended to further improve other tests. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time for standardized diagnosis and treatment.
