How many days for oxaliplatin side effects to subside

The side effects of oxaliplatin generally last 1 to 3 weeks or longer to subside. Oxaliplatin in combination with 5-fluorouracil and folinic acid may be used for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, adjuvant treatment of stage III (Duke’s C) colon cancer after complete resection of the primary tumor, and other diseases. Treatment with this drug is contraindicated in people with known hypersensitivity to oxaliplatin or to other platinum compounds, in breastfeeding women, in people with existing bone marrow suppression before the start of the 1st course of treatment. Gastrointestinal side effects such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, hematologic side effects such as fatigue, decreased red and white blood cells, and neurologic side effects such as sensory abnormalities may occur after administration of the drug. Gastrointestinal side effects usually disappear about one week after stopping the drug, hematologic side effects disappear about two weeks after stopping the drug, and neurological side effects such as sensory abnormalities usually disappear three weeks or more after stopping the drug. If significant side effects occur after treatment with oxaliplatin, it is recommended that you visit a hospital and ask your doctor to make a judgment.
