Growth deceleration may be a sign of childhood disease

Every Friday, the pediatric clinic is always crowded. Many parents come to the clinic with their small children. Parents anxiously ask, “Doctor, why can’t my child grow taller?” Some parents ask anxiously, “Doctor, why is my child not growing taller?” and “Will drinking more milk help?” Some anxious parents even ask around for “prescriptions” to make their children taller. The earlier and earlier scientific intervention is carried out for children with short stature, the better, dragging and waiting for growth will only make the child miss the growth period. Growth deceleration is an early warning signal,” the child’s healthy growth and development is the most important concern of parents, but because of the old concept of ‘late development’ makes many parents take this lightly. A child’s growth and development cannot wait, it is a ‘race’ with bone age and ‘grabbing’ height with the epiphysis.” “The earlier the treatment, the better the results, if you wait until the epiphysis closes, there is basically no chance of growing taller.” Slowing growth is often an early sign of childhood disease, and parents should be alert when they notice that their child is half a head to a head behind his or her peers. If the growth is less than 7 cm per year before the age of 3, less than 5 cm per year between the age of 3 and puberty, and less than 6 cm per year after puberty, it is considered a slowdown in growth, and parents should promptly take their children to a regular hospital for a comprehensive examination to find the cause for treatment. The second sex characteristics are early. It is understood that the growth potential of children is not based on the actual age, but on the skeletal age, that is, the bone age. Bone age is an indicator of development, like the annual rings of a tree, which determines the final height of a child. If the age is greater than the bone age, it suggests that the child is growth retarded; if the age is less than the bone age, it suggests that the child is precocious. ”Many parents are desperately trying to give their children enhanced nutrition in order to grow their children. Plus some foods may have certain hormones or certain residual pesticides, which can trigger the child’s early sexual development”, the early secretion of a large number of sex hormones, so that the child’s bone age ahead of time, the epiphysis will close early. Many of the supplements and oral liquids developed for children in the market are labeled as “long and strong”, but in fact, a significant portion of them contain hormones. After these hormones enter the child’s body, the child will grow taller than children of the same age when they are five or six years old, and the result of maturation is that their bone age also soars to 8-10 years old. Experts say that if a child’s height growth suddenly accelerates before the age of 9 or if secondary sexual characteristics appear prematurely, be alert.
