Smoking is an important cause, but not every smoker suffers from tongue cancer.”  He introduced a study showing that tongue cancer is closely related to smoking, and the risk of tongue cancer is 6 times higher for those who smoke 10-19 cigarettes a day than for non-smokers, 7.6 times higher for those who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, and up to 12.4 times higher for those who smoke more than 40 cigarettes a day. “Tobacco can cause mitochondrial mutations in cells, which can lead to cancer.
