Most tonsillitis in children is caused by bacterial infections and the correct use of sensitive antibiotics is the main treatment, with penicillin and cephalosporins as the first choice, which need to be administered differently depending on the severity of the condition. In case of allergy to these two classes of drugs, they can be replaced with azithromycin. After 2-3 days of antibiotic treatment, if the symptoms are not significantly relieved, such as severe pain in the throat and recurrent high fever, the throat swab needs to be sent for bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test, and the most sensitive class of drugs should be selected according to the test results. At the same time, glucocorticoids should be used as appropriate according to body weight to help control infection and reduce edema. For recurrent tonsillitis over four weeks of age, especially if it occurs more than 5-6 times a year or if excessive hypertrophy of the tonsils affects sleep, breathing and swallowing functions, surgery should be chosen.
