Is a cyst on the liver serious?

Whether a cyst on the liver is serious or not needs to be analyzed based on various factors such as the size of the cyst, the location of the growth, whether there is pressure on the adjacent organs, and whether liver function is altered. Liver cysts are relatively common benign occupying diseases, mostly due to abnormal development of intrahepatic bile ducts. If the liver cyst is small in size, has no uncomfortable symptoms, the situation is relatively not serious, and there is no compression on the adjacent organs, only regular observation and follow-up is needed to observe the growth rate of the lesion. If the liver cyst is larger in size and compresses the gastrointestinal tract, causing upper abdominal discomfort, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and affecting food intake, accompanied by changes in liver function, the situation is serious and requires cyst puncture and drainage or laparoscopic cyst opening and drainage surgery, and also liver lobectomy or liver transplantation depending on the patient’s condition. Therefore, if cysts are found on the liver, they should be reviewed regularly at the hepatology department of the hospital, pay attention to rest, eat reasonably and avoid stimulation by smoking and alcohol.
