Pepper is the dried mature pericarp of peppers or peppercorns of the Rutaceae plant. It is pungent in flavor and warm in nature. It belongs to the spleen, stomach and kidney meridians. It can warm the middle and relieve pain (relieve pain by warming the spleen and stomach), kill insects and relieve itching. It is used for cold pain in the epigastrium (feeling cold pain in the stomach and abdomen), vomiting and diarrhea, and abdominal pain caused by worms; and externally for treating eczema and vaginal itching.
Motherwort can invigorate blood circulation and regulate menstruation, diuretic and reduce swelling, clear heat and remove toxins. It is used for menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea and menstrual closure, inexhaustible menstrual discharge, edema and urination, sores and swollen toxins.
Zelan can activate blood circulation and regulate menstruation, dispel blood stasis and eliminate carbuncle, diuretic and eliminate swelling. It is used for menstrual disorders, menstrual closure, dysmenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain with blood stasis, sores, carbuncles and swollen toxins, edema and ascites.
Pu Huang can stop bleeding, dissolve blood stasis and clear gonorrhea. It is used in treating hematemesis, epistaxis, haemoptysis, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dripping), traumatic bleeding, menstrual closure and dysmenorrhea, stabbing pain in the chest and abdomen, swelling and pain in falling and thumping, haematochezia (the appearance of blood in the urine accompanied by a painful sensation) and astringent pain.
