The role of polysomnography

Polysomnography is a more commonly used monitoring method in sleep medicine, especially for obstructive sleep apnea, as the gold standard for diagnosis, not only for the diagnosis of snoring, to determine whether it is obstructive apnea, central sleep apnea, but also to determine sleep hypoventilation, sleep duration, sleep staging, deep sleep more or light sleep more, and to determine the falling asleep situation or Insomnia. Some patients feel insomnia themselves, but through sleep monitoring, they are actually sleepy. It can also be used as a screening diagnosis for abnormal fast moving eye sleep or as a diagnosis for other sleep disorders. In addition, it can be used to screen for problems with epilepsy, any abnormal behavior during sleep, or to determine the number of leg movements, because some patients have problems with non-stop leg movements and periodic leg movements, which can be determined using sleep monitoring. Sleep monitoring can be used for the diagnosis and identification of many sleep disorders.
