Polio children’s leg strength will become smaller, with the aggravation of the disease will have the possibility of paralysis, so we need to enhance the leg muscle strength, improve limb stiffness, as well as hand function training.
1. In the early stage of polio, children can play basketball, soccer, badminton, and practice jumping and bouncing ability to enhance the strength of the legs and promote the recovery of the disease.
2. For children with limb stiffness, muscle stretching, or exercise with the aid of assistive devices, to promote the recovery of muscle function, relieve muscle stiffness and atrophy.
3. Children can be trained to make fists, pens, chopsticks, beans and other fine hand exercises to enhance hand function. Hand and foot exercises such as rock climbing can be performed to further improve the coordination of the limbs to help the condition recover.
In the process of training, we should pay attention to safety, follow the principle of gradual progress, the number of activities can be increased from a small number, the strength should be from light to heavy, to prevent excessive training caused by limb damage. If obvious pain is caused when doing the exercise, stop the activity immediately and rest in place. Rehabilitation training under the guidance of a doctor is recommended.
