Can you rehab on your back after hip replacement surgery?

The ability to rehab on your back after hip replacement depends mainly on the surgical approach. Common surgical approaches include posterior lateral approach, anterior approach, anterior lateral approach, small incision lateral approach, etc. If the posterior lateral approach is chosen, the capsule around the hip joint will be cut off from the posterior side for implantation.
If the posterior lateral approach is chosen, the capsule around the hip joint is cut off from the posterior lateral side for implantation of the prosthesis, and the stabilizing structures such as the capsule at the front of the hip joint are intact when lying on the back, and anterior dislocation will not occur, so rehabilitation training while lying on the back is an option.
If the anterior approach is chosen, the joint capsule in front of the hip joint may be removed or cut, and the stabilizing structure of the front of the hip joint is weak, lying on the ground may lead to anterior dislocation of the hip joint, therefore, lying on the ground is not an option for rehabilitation training.
If the anterolateral approach is chosen, the surgery may destroy the joint capsule at the front of the hip, and lying on the ground may also lead to anterior dislocation of the hip, so lying on the ground is not recommended for rehabilitation.
If the small incision lateral approach is chosen, the surgery may also destroy the anterior joint capsule, resulting in weak stability of the front of the hip joint, and lying on the ground may easily lead to anterior dislocation of the hip joint, so it is not recommended to lie on the ground for rehabilitation training.
It is recommended that patients after hip replacement surgery under the guidance of a professional doctor to carry out scientific rehabilitation training, to avoid blind exercise on their own, so as not to cause adverse consequences.
