Reddish color of stool may be caused by food factors, perianal diseases, digestive system diseases and so on.
1. Food factors: if patients eat a lot of food containing red pigment, such as red dragon fruit, beet, tomatoes, carrots, etc., the stool may become red, because the red pigment is not completely decomposed, it will be discharged with the feces, and can be restored to normal stools after stopping eating.
2. Perianal diseases: such as anal fissure, hemorrhoids, anal polyps, etc. Patients usually have blood in the stool during or after defecation, which is bright red in color and adheres to the surface of the stool.
3. Digestive system diseases: such as peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, cirrhosis of liver and other diseases, as well as diet and other diseases that stimulate gastrointestinal mucosa and lead to gastrointestinal bleeding. In addition, patients with rectal cancer only have blood in stool in early stage, and mucus-pus-blood stool can be seen in later stage, all of which will have red stool color.
The red color of stool may also be caused by other reasons. If the symptoms are serious, patients should go to the hospital in time for consultation and standardized treatment after the causes are clarified.
