The news of sudden death of young people in the past few days has been widely spread in microblogging and weibo, a sigh of relief, grief for the premature loss of young lives and the spread of pessimism, lamenting the fragility of life and unbearable. In fact, the death of any life is not without reason, from our many years of experience in the practice of medicine, sudden cardiac death is mainly acute myocardial infarction, malignant arrhythmia and acute severe myocarditis, acute myocardial infarction is often preceded by recurrent chest tightness, chest pain and other symptoms, see my other article “rescue myocardium in seconds – Dr. Bu talk about myocardial infarction”, here This disease is closely related to the common cold, and is often overlooked, but it can cause acute myocarditis, with high morbidity and mortality. I remember that twenty years ago, when I was in the outpatient clinic, there were often patients who came to the hospital with chest tightness and panic after catching a cold, and we gave them 3-5 days of sick leave in addition to the appropriate treatment, mainly considering the possibility of acute myocarditis after catching a cold. With the accelerated pace of life and work, fewer and fewer people ask for rest because of a cold and fever, they are too embarrassed to ask for rest, and the leaders often do not agree; in the past, young people and their parents lived in a city, and if they were not feeling well, their parents would usually advise and take care of them, but nowadays, most young people leave their parents to work in other cities, and if they have a cold and fever, they can carry it off, and they are not alert and aware of myocarditis. The lack of vigilance and awareness of myocarditis has often led to the occurrence of sudden death. In 1999, China promulgated the “Diagnostic Reference Standards for Adult Acute Viral Myocarditis”, which states that in 1-3 weeks after a viral infection such as a cold or diarrhea, frequent weakness, chest pain or palpitations should be noted, and electrocardiograms can reveal arrhythmias or myocardial damage, and blood sampling can reveal abnormalities in myocardial enzyme profiles and indicators of viral infection. The lighter the disease, the less severe the discomfort or occasional premature beats, the more likely it is to heal without hospital treatment; the more severe, serious arrhythmias, heart failure, and even sudden death, and now many patients with only premature beats and no other medical history or evidence are often diagnosed with myocarditis, mostly as a speculative diagnosis with no clinical significance. What can be done to prevent myocarditis after a cold? You should prevent it from the following aspects: 1. rest Rest as much as possible, it is best to rest or rest at home in bed, quit smoking, quit drinking, do not stay up late, really have to go to work, but also to let colleagues and leaders know that you are sick, as far as possible to reduce the intensity of work and time, tired immediately rest, if the symptoms are serious, please ask colleagues and friends around the hospital together, need to be reminded that do not go to sports after a cold. After the cold gym, swimming, running, etc. are prohibited activities. 2, check If the chest tightness, weakness, dizziness and other conditions are serious, you need to go to the nearest hospital to do some tests, rather than queuing up for a few days, rushing to the tertiary hospital to see a specialist clinic, first in the lot hospital, community hospital to check the electrocardiogram, to see if there are premature beats, conduction block, myocardial damage, if there are abnormalities can also draw blood to check whether the cardiac enzymes are elevated, according to the results to decide whether to go to a higher-level hospital specialist consultation. 3. Nutrition Drink more water, eat more fruits containing vitamin C such as oranges and tomatoes, and foods rich in amino acids such as lean meat, eggs, fish and soybeans, all of which are helpful to the autoimmune system. The cold is a self-limiting disease that can be cured in 1-2 weeks under the action of its own resistance, so it is possible to avoid the occurrence of myocarditis by taking precautions after the cold.
